Music industry is one of the most successful industry in the world. It is evident that everybody loves listening to music. It helps in calming our minds and helps us to de-stress. Also music livens up a party or keeps you motivated while you are working alone. Apart from the fundamental genres like jazz, pop, rock etc. there are around 1264 genres and sub-genres of music. Pop

Pop music genre originated in the mid-1950s in United States and United Kingdom. Pop music has clearly no definitions and literally means ‘popular music’! So it is basically the genre that produces the most hits. Songs that have a good rhythm, easy lyrics and are catchy falls into the pop genre. In the modern era, pop generally has its musical elements derived from hip-hop, rap, trap and electronic music. There are various sub-genres of pop such as baroque pop, country pop, dance pop etc.
Some of the famous artists producing pop genre include: The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Adele and Lana Del Rey.

Hip hop

In the 1970s, hip hop music was introduced which would become one of the most popular music genres. Hip hop or rap music was developed by Latino Americans and inner-city African Americans. Hip hop or rap doesn’t require a good singing voice or musical instruments. It is basically a blend of spoken words with electronic sounds. Though in the start hip hop was mainly about the harsh life in the ghetto, but current hip hop artists are widely popular and successful.

Some of the successful hip hop artists include: Tupac Shakur, Eminem, Jay Z and Drake.

Rock

Rock music genre was widely popular and originated with rock and roll in around 1950s. But rock is not limited to rock and roll. It has various widely popular subgenres such as blues, folk and country. Though from the traditional blues rock evolved into more complex music style such as progressive rock, rock is not popular as it used to be. With the help of electronic music and digitalization, other genres have replaced rock from its chart topping spot.

Electronic dance music

Electronic dance music or EDM rose to the popularity around the eighties and the nighties. With the advent of digitalization, music artists started exploring new ways of making music. They no longer needed musical instruments but only a computer. EDM also known as dance or club music is dedicated for nightclubs or festivals.

Some of the famous artists and successful producing EDM are: Martin Garrix, Skrillex and David Guetta.

Country

With its roots dating back to the 1920s, country music is still a popular genre. With its soothing tunes, country music is best when you want to relax or are planning for a road trip. In modern times though popular music styles are added to make country music even better, this genre hasn’t lost its original touch. Banjos and acoustic guitars form the main instrument of country music.

Some of the renowned artists are: Carrie Underwood, Johnny Cash and Taylor Swift.
